When We First Loved

When we first loved
I knew you'd be special
Your warm smile
And smiling embrace

When we first loved
I held your hand
Gave you comfort
Planted you by my side

A love hard to hide
A love so deep
Sought to make you my wife
Build us a future and long life

Tears led to forgiveness
Good times to tight bounds
Tell where else can I find such love
I've found a good thing

So much have I learned from you
And more have I sacrificed
I count it all joy
With you in my life

I'd be a fool not to cherish you
Even more foolish not to carry you
When you are weak run to me
When you are broken run to me

I'm here - let me heal the wounds
I'm here - let me kiss your broken heart
I'm here - forget past relationships
I'm here - I promise to esteem you

I don't mean to hurt you
Though I'm not perfect
Like a lump of clay
I'm being molded

There will be rough edges
And some wedges
Pieces to break off
the things deemed unnecessary

No relationship involves two perfect people
But where there is loyalty
There is hope
Where there is faithfulness
There is unity

Where there is unity
The love will stand
No force will be great enough
Nor powerful enough
To break this kind of love

To keep the love pure
We must remember the time
When we first loved
The first kiss

The first time we said
"I Love you!"
We must remember our hearts
And how they said
"I'll love you till the day I'm dead"

Let us build together
when others try to tear us apart
Let us cherish each other
Unlike so many in our generation

For the talk of love is cheap
But the acts of love is rich
Promises of a future a dream
But steps towards them a purpose

A man without a vision
Is a broken family in route
A man without love
Is a thief of a woman's joy

But on this envoy
Let us sail...
not towards broken promises
But to the land of fulfillment

The path is laid
The vision is clear
Let's work together
In this promising frontier
